Objektif program adalah untuk memberikan pendedahan kepada staf dan pelajar Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia berkenaan arus kemodenan, pembangunan dan cabaran pelaburan harta tanah di Arab Saudi dan Timur Tengah.

Kursus Sains Pembersihan untuk Kontraktor anjuran MECS

Pada 23, 24 dan 25 November 2011 telah dianjurkan Kursus Sains Pembersihan untuk Kontraktor-kontraktor yang menyelenggara aset di UTHM. Seramai 30 orang peserta telah terlibat secara langsung bagi menjalani kursus teori serta praktikal ini. Phak bertanggungjawab yang menjalankan latihan iaitu syarikat konsultansi MECS memberikan tunjuk ajar bagaimana kaedah pembersihan yang betul dan selamat menggunakan manual dari BISC (British Institute Cleaning Science). Kursus tiga hari ini didapati berjaya membetulkan kesilapan yang sering dilakukan oleh kontraktor kebersihan dan seterusnya memastikan universiti sifar kecederaan sewaktu pembersihan dan penyelenggaraan dilakukan. Majlis penutup dan penyampaian sijil kursus telah disempurnakan oleh Timbalan Pengarah (Pengurusan Fasiliti dan Harta) Pejabat Pengurusan Hartabina UTHM dan juga Penaung Pusat Kecemerlangan Pengurusan Fasiliti (CEFM) iaitu Prof Madya Sr Dr Wan Zahari Wan Yusoff. Syabas peserta-peserta yang hadir pada kursus tersebut!






Thesis Writing Workshop

A thesis writing workshop held on 27 April 2011 and fully organized by CEFM (Centre of Excellence for Facilities Management) was a great success! 76 participants (including staffs and students from all faculties in UTHM) involved in this 5 hours workshop. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Mat Deris, senior lecturer in Faculty of Multimedia and Information Technology is one of the IEEE journal reviewer was appointed as a speaker for the workshop. Hall 3, Block A3 in University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia was selected for this programme’s venue.

The workshop started with welcoming speech from Mrs. Masitah, on behalf of CEFM Committee members. The workshop then was divided into 4 sections; Preliminary, Introduction, Literature Review and Proposed Methodology. The participants were given several samples on how to write a good literature review and proposal for PhD candidates. Q&A sessions were engaged with questions regarding to thesis title, improper problem statement and how to pick correct references for the research.

This accomplishment is attained because of the participants’ involvement during the event. In general, most of the participants involved in brainstorming session and helping each others to amend the mistakes. Seeing the positive feedbacks from students and staffs, CEFM decided to organize a next seminar concerning to High Impact Journal Writing expected to be held next month.

Yunos, Tn. Haji Zainuddin selaku juruteknik kanan, ahli-ahli CEFM iaitu Cik Irsalina Suria Ismail, Cik Siti Fairus binti Ahmad, Encik Ezhwan Nur bin Arshad dan Cik Ihfasuziella binti Ibrahim.

Encik Wan Azli selaku Ketua Pembangunan Bisnes Global Facilities Management memberikan penerangan berkenaan organisasi syarikat, skop pekerjaan dan portfolio pengurusan. Global Facilities Management Sdn. Bhd. telah menerima anugerah Best Bang For Buck daripada Frost & Sullivan 2007 serta akreditasi ISO 9001, ISO 14001 dan OHSAS 18001 dari Bureau Veritas Certification. Mohammad Shaharizal bin Mohammad Idris selaku pengarah eksekutif Global Facilities Management menerangkan tentang peranan seorang pengurus fasiliti dan pengalamannya sepanjang berkhidmat dalam bidang swasta. Beliau juga adalah salah seorang tulang belakang kepada konferens National Facilities and Asset Malaysia ( NAFAM) pada tahun 2009.

Semoga dengan terikatnya perjanjian MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) antara CEFM (Center of Excellence for Facilities Management) dengan Global Facilities Management ini akan membolehkan penyelidikan usaha sama antara organisasi Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia dengan pihak swasta dijalankan dengan jayanya.


Fire Issues in Strata Property

What is strata property?


Strata property defined as building or collection of buildings where individuals with their small portion of their own known as lot but shares the ownership of common possessions such as walls, windows, roofs, driveways, fences, lawns, swimming pool and gardens, etc. Many people think strata properties are high rise buildings and vertical blocks of flats but keep in mind that townhouse and villa developments (the one level) also included in the strata schemes.

Being strata manager is not an easy task especially when you have to deal with various type of people living in the same block. Adheres to fire safety regulation is important, not because it is stated in the Act but this regulations ensured the safety of hundreds of lives in the building if the fire occurs. In strata properties the common cause of fire is electrical, usually related to cooking or heating equipment misuse and/or failure (Broadhead, R., 2010). In Malaysia, under the Strata Titles Act, it is mandatory for the Management Corporation (MC) of buildings such as apartments and condominiums to purchase fire insurance for the whole building. The individual unit owner is required to pay to the MC his respective premium portion.

 Prevention is Better Than Cure

As facility manager, these several actions shall be taken into consideration:

  1. Portable Fire Equipments,
  2. Alarms and Evacuation System
  3. Fire Safety Training,
  4. Fire Sprinkler System,
  5. Passive fire products. 


In minimizing risk, the key point is to prevent fire from starting or stop them if they are already spreading. The materials made to make wall, window and door frames may help to slow down or stop the fire from expand to other lots. Make sure the alarm is sensitive enough to identified the fire but not a false-alarm of people cooking with lots of smoke from their cooking pots. Property manager shall be alert whether to change it to better quality but not totally removed it from the properties.

Sembang-sembang Sarjana 3 Mac 2011

Bagi memantapkan kaedah pembentangan pelajar-pelajar Sarjana, program Sembang-sembang Sarjana bagi 2011 diteruskan dengan pra-pembentangan oleh Ezhwan Nur Arshad dan Mohd. Firdaus bin Ismail. Program dijalankan pada setiap hari Jumaat dan bermula pada pukul 3.00 petang berjaya memberi pendedahan awal berkenaan kaedah membentang laporan perkembangan projek setiap semester dan sesi VIVA bagi pelajar Tahun Akhir. 


Seterusnya setiap pelajar diberikan kritikan dari segi lenggok bahasa, pengisian dan penyampaian maklumat berkenaan kajian masing-masing. Ezhwan membentangkan penyelidikan berkenaan Kualiti Hidup Masyarakat di Nusajaya dan Firdaus membentangkan berkenaan Kaedah Krisis Komunikasi dalam Pengurusan Acara/Majlis. 

Memandangkan pelajar-pelajar ini berada di dalam semester satu, maka masih awal untuk mereka membuat pembetulan sebelum laporan perkembangan penyelidikan di hantar. Pelajar-pelajar senior bertindak sebagai Fasilitator, memberikan kritikan serta pandangan dalam menambah-baik projek pelajar-pelajar junior. Program Sembang-sembang Sarjana diharapkan dapat memberikan pelajar-pelajar di bawah naungan CEFM agar lebih berani dan yakin serta tidak melakukan kesilapan yang kerap dilakukan oleh penyelidik-penyelidik sebelumnya.
